3 Days Camp Segara Anak
Rewarding route focusing on Crater Rim and Segara Anak Lake.
For a 3-day, 2-night (3D2N) trek starting and ending in Senaru, the most rewarding route focuses on the Senaru Crater Rim, Segara Anak Lake, and the hot springs. This path is often preferred by those who want to avoid the crowds of the Sembalun summit route or who prefer a shaded hike through tropical rain forests.
Camp at Segara Anak.
Segara Anak is the best Camping Spots. The Camp Site Danau Segara Anak Lake is the primary lakeside spot, offering easy access to fishing and the hot springs.

It is most suitable for the following types of people:
1. Nature Lovers and Photographers
- Immersive Scenery. This route focuses on the “heart” of the mountain. You spend more time at Lake Segara Anak and the Senaru Crater Rim, which offers what many consider the best sunset and sunrise views in the park.
- Wildlife & Jungle. Ideal for those who enjoy trekking through dense tropical rain forests. It is common to see rare black monkeys and hear various tropical birds along this shaded trail.
2. First-Time or “Casual” Trekkers
- Moderate Difficulty. While still physically demanding with steep sections, it is classified as moderate compared to the “challenging” summit routes.
- Beginner-Friendly. It is recommended for beginners with “healthy stamina” who want a rewarding multi-day adventure without the technical 2:00 AM volcanic ash climb required for the summit.
3. Wellness and Relaxation Seekers
- “Mountain Spa”. This itinerary provides ample time to soak in the natural hot springs near the lake, which are naturally therapeutic for sore muscles.
- Slower Pace. Unlike summit programs that often rush through the lake area, this 3-day trek allows for a more relaxed rhythm and lakeside camping.
4. Families and Couples
- Group Suitability. It is a popular choice for active families (children typically over 5–10 years old) and couples looking for a scenic, shared experience.
- Private Options. Many operators offer “Deluxe” private trips for these groups, providing extra comfort like thicker mattresses and private toilet tents.
Important Health Considerations
3-day trekking in Senaru is not recommended for:
- Individuals with severe vertigo or a fear of heights, as some sections (especially the descent to the lake) are steep and narrow.
- People with asthma or heart conditions due to the high altitude and continuous exertion.
- Those with significant knee issues, as the long descent back to Senaru (dropping over 2,000m in elevation) can be very demanding on the joints.

- Clothing. Temperatures at the rim can drop to 0–5°C at night. Pack a warm windproof jacket, thermal layers (Heat Tech), gloves, and a beanie.
- Gear. A reliable headlamp is essential for navigating in the dark if you arrive late or for early morning views. Trekking poles are strongly advised to reduce knee strain during the long 5-hour descent.
- Personal Hygiene. Bring hand sanitizer, wet wipes, and toilet paper, as facilities on the mountain are extremely basic.
On the Trail Tips
