Crucial Logistics & Planning Tips – Combo Trip

  • Best Travel Window: Book this trip between May and September (dry season). Please note that Mount Rinjani National Park closes completely every year from January 1st to late March/April due to dangerous monsoon rains and landslides.
  • Physical Preparation: Do not underestimate Mount Rinjani. The final hike to the summit is on deep, loose volcanic ash where you slide back half a step for every step forward. We highly recommend training your cardio and legs before your trip.
  • Packing Strategy: Pack for two different climates. You will need lightweight tropical clothing and swimwear for Komodo, but high-quality warm layers, a heavy jacket, a headlamp, and broken-in hiking boots for the freezing Rinjani summit.
  • Booking Permits: Both destinations require official permits. Your Rinjani trek must be booked through a registered agency like ours to provide a licensed guide, porters, and to process your national park tickets via the official e-Rinjani system.
